Joule AI: New benchmark for AI in SAP SuccessFactors

The market for skilled workers has changed, and most companies have already taken measures to counteract this. But there is one innovation that has become essential in this context: artificial intelligence. Companies must use this innovation to remain competitive.

SAP wants to give SuccessFactors users a decisive edge with its new AI. Joule AI gives companies the support they need to close skills gaps and realize the full potential of their employees. Joule AI’s capabilities will integrate seamlessly with the entire SAP SuccessFactors Human Experience Management (HXM) suite to effectively support employees in areas such as recruitment, internal mobility, training and performance management.

With the introduction of Joule AI, users of SAP SuccessFactors and other SAP cloud products are experiencing significant progress. In this blog post, we take a detailed look at what exactly Joule AI is and provide an overview of its key features.

What is behind Joule AI?

Anyone who has ever tried to interact with a more or less helpful chatbot on a website knows how frustrating it can be when a digital companion shows no empathy, has no contextual knowledge, doesn’t seem to be improving and asks the same question over and over again – which raises blood pressure and makes you want to talk to a human immediately.

With Joule AI, SAP is pursuing the goal of offering conversation-based interactions between humans and computers in order to simplify access to information and automate business processes. The aim is to increase both employee and customer satisfaction.

Joule has the ability to learn from existing data. This data not only comes from the SAP solutions themselves, but can also be obtained from various third-party sources. In contrast to other artificial intelligence systems, such as ChatGPT, Joule draws its insights not only from the Internet, but exclusively from the company’s own SAP software data.

The integration of Joule AI extends across SAP’s entire cloud portfolio. Information from various systems is collected and brought into a meaningful context. The market launch is planned for the end of this year 2023 and will initially take place with SAP SuccessFactors solutions and SAP Start. Joule will then also be available with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition at the beginning of next year. However, Joule AI will initially only be available in a small number of data centers.

The most important functions of SAP Joule AI

Joule AI offers SAP users two major opportunities to work even more efficiently: a co-pilot function and a recommendation function.

  1. The co-pilot function

The specific application of Joule AI’s co-pilot function allows users to ask questions via a chat window or voice command. Similar to ChatGPT, Joule AI understands natural language and can respond accordingly. However, Joule goes one step further by not only understanding the command, but also placing it in the business context of the respective company. This ensures precise and context-related interaction.

In particular, Joule AI is characterized by its ability to know the role of the questioner and thus generate extremely specific answers. This specificity makes it possible to optimally support the user in their individual situation.

  1. Recommendation Function

Joule AI also offers its users solution-oriented recommendations.

What can this look like for users in SuccessFactors?

Example 1: In the LMS module, Joule AI automatically recommends learning content based on employees’ strengths and weaknesses.

Example 2: In the Recruiting module, Joule AI generates specific interview questions that are tailored to the individual requirements of the job in question.

More than just HR

SAP describes Joule AI as a virtual work colleague that can provide support in all SAP applications, particularly in the areas of HR, finance, supply chain management, purchasing and the SAP Business Technology Platform.

For example, Joule AI can help Sales to analyze weak points in certain parts of the supply chain, while for HR it facilitates the generation of complete job advertisements and other tasks.

Users can simply ask questions or formulate problems by voice command and receive intelligent answers based on comprehensive business data.

This is what Joule AI can do for SAP users:

  • Help users navigate to the desired functions.
  • Help users perform their tasks efficiently.
  • Help users retrieve information from existing documents.
  • Provide users with specific recommendations based on existing data.

Joule AI will be seamlessly integrated into the overall SAP cloud portfolio and will be able to help many users work efficiently and productively with SAP in the future.

In an increasingly competitive world, it is crucial to adapt talent development strategies. Advancing artificial intelligence is not only changing the way we work, but also offering new ways to unlock individual and collective potential. Be a pioneer in this revolution, use Joule AI and shape a future-oriented HR management.

With Joule AI, you get a free upgrade! Please note, however, that the number of messages (questions + answers) per company is limited. But don’t worry – there will be a premium version of Joule AI that will allow companies an additional number of messages.
